The Tamilnadu Goverment vide its G.o.(Ms).No.796, Revenue and Disaster Management Dept., dated 28.12.2020, has orderd to bifurcate the existing Nagapattinam district in to Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai District and accordingly the Mayiladuthurai has been newly formed as 38th district of Tamilnadu with effect from 28-12-2020.Mayiladuthurai district consist of two Revenue Divisions viz. Mayiladuthurai and newly created Sirkali Division, four existing Taluks namely Mayiladuthurai, Kuthalam, Tharangambadi, Sirkali, 15 Revenue Firkas and 287 Revenue villages. two Municipalities, 5 Panchayat Unions, 4 Town Panchayats, and 241 Village Panchayats.
