Agricultural Engineering Department is involved in the development of farming sector by introducing various farm techniques and innovative Farm machineries.This Department is Implementing various schemes for water harvesting and utilization of Natural Energy (Solar Energy) in the Farming Sector.
In Mayiladuthurai district, the following schemes are implemented by the Agricultural Engineering Department :

01.Land Development scheme
02.Minor Irrigation Scheme
03. Agricultural MechanisationProgramme under SMAM
04. Formation of Custom Hiring Centres(Block and Village Level) under SMAM to Individual Entrprenuar/Farmers group,TNMSDA,Women PLF
05. Implementation of Solar powered Pumping System-PMKUSUM
06.Creation of water harvesting structure under TNIAMP-NABARD
07. Implementation of civil works forAgricultural Department.
08.ImplementationofInfrastucture Development works in State Seed Farms and Coconut Nursery
09. Implementation of MIS in coordination with sister departments
10.Implementation of Post harvest Technology Manageemnt Machinery Scheme.
11. Implementation of Reclamation of Problem Soil scheme in coastal villages

01.Land Development scheme:
The Tractors and combine harvesters, are given on hire basis to the needy farmers for Agriculture purpose.

02.MinorIrrigationScheme:
Mini Drills & hand boring sets are given to the farmers on hire basis to sink bore wells.

03.Distribution of Agricultural Machineries under SMAM
All agricultural Machineries/Implements like Tractors ,Power tillers, Rotavators , Power weeders, Trans planters, Multicrop Threshers, Tractor drawn Implements, Power sprayersetc are distributed through online portal (www.agrimachinery.nic.in) to the eligible farmers under Sub Mission On Agricultural Mechanisation(SMAM) under Subsidy.

04.Formation of Custom Hiring Centre under SMAM:
Block Level CHC
The Registered farmers group under society act or interested entrepreneur will be given set of farm machineries based on cropping pattern for worth of Rs.25.00lakhs and subsidy Rs10.00 lakhs will be releasedto the concerned Group/Entrepreneur This CHC will give these machineries on nominal hire charges to small and marginal farmers.
Village Level CHC under TN MSDA
The Registered farmers group under society act will be given set of farm machineries based on cropping pattern for worth of Rs.10.00lakhs and subsidy Rs8.00 lakhs will be released to the concerned Group.This CHC will give these machineries on nominal hire charges to small and marginal farmers.
05.Implementation of solar pumping system:
Farmers are selected based on their application. The conditions for eligibility are if it is a bore well, the size should be 6”and should have shade free area of 200 sqm. There is option to select 5hp/7.5hp/10hp based on their requirement. The Total cost varies from 2.4lakhs to 4.30 lakhs and 70% subsidy is given for installation.
06.Creation of Water Harvesting Structure under NABARD/TNIAMP
The farmers who are willing to form water harvesting structure like Farm Pondin their field are selected. Farm pond is formed at the cost of Rs.1,00,000/ with a capacity of 1800 m^3.Under this programme.

07. Implementation of civil works for Agricultural Department.
Agricultural Engineering Department is entrusted to execute the construction of Integarated Agricultural Extension Centres , Sub Agricultural Extension Centres and Seed Godowns for Agricultural Department.
08. Implementation of Civil works in State Seed Farms:
Agricultural Engineering Department is entrusted to takeup infrastructure development works in the State Seed Farms situated at Thirukadaiyur of Sembanarkoil Block and NagamangalamofKuthalam Block and Coconut Nursery at Malliyum of Kuthalam Block
09. Implementation of MIS in coordination with sister departments
Agriculture and Horticulture Departments are implementing Micro Irrigation system schemes to various Agriculture crops & Horticulture crops. Agricultural Engineering Engineers are entrusted to assist and verify the MIS system installed by the concerned Departments.
10.Implementation of Post harvest Technology Manageemnt Machinery Scheme
Post harvest Technology Management Machineries like Oil expellers,Mini Rice Mill,Dhal mill etc are issued to farmers under subsidy for value addition of Agricultural produce.
11. Implementation of Reclamation of Problem Soil scheme in coastal villages.
To Improve the productivity of the saline affected agricultural Lands in coastal villages this scheme being implemented by incorporating Engineering and Agronomical measures.
